![]() ![]() She greeted us saying that she had our requests and would try to work them in, but that some would curse her, but she doesn’t have it ready, and to try Sweden. Still, she let it rip, and she likes to improvise with it, and it was really lovely, even though I wish she didn’t drag it out so much (the 4 minute album version turns into 7 minutes live and it’s really not necessary). This came close to topping the version I heard in Linz last year, but not quite. Secret Spell was next, and while the opener had me thinking that the show would thread more on the dark side, this isn’t a very dark song – it is however one she tends to play when she’s feeling confident in her vocal abilities. ![]() Horses is always a delight, but her delivery of “ the camera is rolling” during this particular performance was so fierce it very nearly knocked me off my seat. BQ was very drawn out, breathy and creepy, just the way it’s supposed to be. As far as I’ve been able to verify, she hasn’t opened a live show with this pair since the Dew Drop Inn Tour in ‘96, and it really set the tone – the room was electric. I’d heard Horses once before, but never with Beauty Queen. I skipped the support act this time around, so me and my friend settled into our fantastic second row seats (I still get sweaty palms when I think of that particular presale… trying to get good tickets for the first Helsinki show while a second one went on sale simultaneously, and unannounced! But I did well for night two) shortly before Tori was set to go on. There was no m&g today, and those shows are always interesting because the setlist isn’t dictated by requests quite as much. ![]() She likes to play very different setlists, so I was looking forward to it very much, and wondering how she was going to try and top the previous night. This was my first time seeing her play the same city two nights in a row. ![]()
